Wat Ratchabophit

Wat Ratchabophit

Bangkok has hundreds of temples, and most tourists will likely visit Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) and Wat Phra Kaew(the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and Grand Palace). But did you know there is a beautiful, hidden temple just down the road from Neighbor Phuthon Hotel?

Wat Ratchabophit is a five minute walk from the Phraeng Phuthon neighborhood. Built by King Rama V in 1869, the temple blends traditional Thai and European styles. Admission is free, and you’re not likely to see any tourists around—just local worshippers, and the monks that call the temple home!

Wat Ratchabophit was constructed in the early years of King Rama V’s reign as the symbolic temple of his reign. The temple has a perfect layout, with a pagoda at the center, enclosed in a circular cloister, similar to that in the temple of King Rama IV.
